Walter Graff April 2009 'Exposure' Seminar
The secret to good shots is not the camera but knowing what to do with it.

NYC

Exposure, one of the most misunderstood, and most confusing aspects with shooting video. In this seminar Walter delves into and clarifies many aspects of exposure from shooting to post production.

What is exposure in video? What is black? What is gamma? What is clipping? How much white is white? How much contrast can I get away with in a shot? Can I recover over and under exposed video in post production? Should I even be shooting stuff overexposed? Is video better under or overexposed? What happens to both extremes of exposure in post production and what are the pitfalls? What do these camera settings really do? Can someone show me real-world examples of what they do and how to make a picture look great? And can I see the post side to know what I can get always with, what works and what does not?

To accommodate all the recent requests, I will give single day seminars in April to small groups of about six people at a time.

Basically, if you ever had problems figuring out aspects of exposure, this seminar will answer them for you. The day consists of some theory, exploration of the controls on a camera that can affect exposure and help you control it better, A few interior and exterior set-ups to tackle real world scenarios and the problems one faces. Taking footage to the post side to see how both what the results are form shooting and how post can take you a step further. We'll look at white balance, camera painting, color correction, proper exposure issues with green/blue screen, etc. And part of this day is dedicated to your own concerns and questions. My seminars are always group efforts where everyone is a participant. I invite you to bring your own cameras too (I supply cameras for the demo). We can look at specific issues with your camera and do some setups.

Look at it as doing lighting set-ups and considering how to expose properly. Sounds simple, but when you know all the tricks, it makes the difference between okay pictures, and great pictures. It is well worth the price of admission. If you've seen me talk before, you know I keep it interesting, and accommodate everyone's questions, and thoughts.

What can you expect? If I could plug a cable in-between my head and yours, I’d be able to transfer years of knowledge and probably a few accidental viruses. I can’t. But what I can do is get your mind working. I like my seminars to be less “This is how it IS done” and more “This is how I do it and I want you to take this information and figure out what works for you”.

This will be a full day with a minimum of 8 hours of instruction and can go even longer depending on the group's interest. I am more interested in answering all questions and making sure you walk out of this knowing far more than you did when you walked in.

This seminar will be held in Manhattan on the upper east dies, convenient to the #6 train, and parking lots at reasonable rates are in the area. The dates I am reserving are as follows:

Saturday, April 4th SOLD OUT!

Sunday, April 5th SOLD OUT!

Saturday, April 11th SOLD OUT!

Sunday, April 12th SOLD OUT!

Saturday, April 18th SOLD OUT!

Sunday, April 19th SOLD OUT!

WANT MORE DATES ADDED IN APRIL OR MAY BECAUSE YOU MISSED THIS? LET ME KNOW.

Why so many dates? In the past I have found that giving a variety of dates works as it allows me to offer as many opportunities to attend as possible. In the end some days my not be filled and I simply eliminate those days. sometimes I have only one or two people pick a particular day and then see if I can ask them to switch to fill another day that needs one or two. I offer you the opportunity to pick the date you would like to attend. If I need to switch things around, I’ll do my best to accommodate you. If we can’t I’ll simply refund the money. If you absolutely must have a particular date due to a flight, etc, let me know this when you order and I’ll move others around to you. Already I have two groups attending that have taken the first week. I'd ask you reserve sooner than later as each year too many people wait till the last moment and then are shut out.

Who should attend? This seminar is for anyone interested in production, or anyone that currently works in any level of production. The language will be kept simple so that beginners or less experienced people can feel comfortable but will be understood by all. Both seasoned shooter/editor and the novice can attend and feel comfortable. If for any reason you attend and find it's not for you, just tell me and I will simply refund the money.

Do I need to bring anything? No, all production equipment from cameras, monitors, scopes, and editing system will be provided. You may bring your camera as one of the test cameras. Most folks like to bring a pad and pen. Some like to bring an audio recorder.

How long will this seminar last? This will be an all day event. We will start at 9:00 am and go until at least 5:00pm and probably closer to 7:00pm depending on the group's needs.

How much will this cost to attend? The cost of this seminar is $100.00. I looked at what all the others charge for one day seminars and I charge at least half of what anyone else with any pedigree charges, and I teach far more hands-on so it's a good deal. So for a day to about 6pm we are talking about $11 and hour. Not a bad deal for a great seminar. And I include a free DVD on production too. The event is payable via a link below SECURELY though Pay Pal. You may also pay cash at the door, but this is discouraged, as it gets difficult to keep track of all the logistics of such an event. Contact Walterif you need alternate payment plans. Email will be near bottom of this page.

Space will be limited and this seminars registration can be cut off at any time, so if you are interested, it would be best to register earlier than later. Time and again, I say this and people wait till the last moment only to be shut out. I implore you to sign up early so you don't get shut out. If for some reason you need to cancel after registering, you may do so up to 24 hours before the actual event and all monies will be refunded. If at any time during the seminar you find it's not for you, I will refund your money.
